Light the Park

Grab a slingshot. We're decorating a neighborhood.

Before 500 lighted Christmas balls can glow in the parks of Sunset Hills, somebody has to get them up in the trees. That somebody could be you. On Saturday, November 7, we're turning the park into the world's largest ornament-hanging workshop, and we need all hands (plus a few good aiming arms).

Date: 11/7/2026

Pick your shift:
Morning crew 8am – 12pm, or afternoon crew 1pm – 4pm.

What you'll be doing: There's a job for every skill level (and every level of tree-throwing confidence).
‍
   • Sorting and checking lights. The quality-control crew. If it doesn't glow, it doesn't go.
    • Laying out the power distribution system. Basically building the world's most festive extension-cord network.
    • Hanging balls in the trees with arborist slingshots. Yes, actual slingshots. Yes, it's exactly as fun as it sounds.

What you get: Lunch is on us. Instruction is provided, so zero slingshot experience required. And every volunteer gets free registration for the race on December 12, so you can come back and run (or stroll) under the balls you hung.

Every ball that goes up helps light the way to millions of meals for our neighbors through Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC. We can't wait to hang out with you. Literally.
